Please forgive any cross-postings.
It is my pleasure to announce the winners of the New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance Author's Awards for 2010. We had one of the largest pools of nominations in recent years, which speaks well to the amount of books being published on New Jersey history, but made it a challenge for this Committee to choose among many worthy volumes. Nominated works had to have been published in 2008 or 2009 and were to reflect a new understanding of New Jersey's history and culture, evidence original research in the application of New Jersey resources and/or reveal new insights into a topic.
Our Committee has chosen the following publications:
Reference Category
Lurie, Maxine N. and Peter O. Wacker, eds., and Michael Siegel.
MAPPING NEW JERSEY: AN EVOLVING LANDSCAPE, Rivergate Books (Rutgers Univ. Press), 2009.
Non-fiction, Scholarly Category
1. Sidorick, Daniel. CONDENSED CAPITALISM: CAMPBELL SOUP AND THE
PURSUIT OF CHEAP PRODUCTION IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, ILR Press (Cornell Univ. Press), 2009.
2. Veit, Richard F. and Mark Nonestied. NEW JERSEY CEMETERIES AND
TOMBSTONES: HISTORY IN THE LANDSCAPE, Rivergate Books (Rutgers Univ.
Press), 2008.
Non-fiction, Popular Category
Mappen, Marc. THERE'S MORE TO NEW JERSEY THAN THE SOPRANOS, Rivergate Books (Rutgers Univ. Press), 2009.
Reproduction of Primary Resources Category Gossen, Anne. PRINCETON 1783: THE NATION'S CAPITAL, Morven Museum and Garden, 2009.
Fiction and Poetry Category
Yampolsky, J. Louis. A BOARDWALK STORY, Plexus Publishing, 2009.

The formal announcement of the awards took place yesterday at the Annual Meeting of the Advocates for New Jersey History on Tuesday, October 12 at Ellarslie in Trenton (see:
Congratulations to this year's winners.
